Sushma: Sowing Seeds of Change
Sushma Thapa Magar’s story is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. As a young student, she had an insatiable curiosity and a burning desire to experiment and research. Her interests eventually led her to the world of farming and agriculture, that gave her an opportunity to merge science and innovation with traditional farming practices.
Sushma’s dedication and hard work paid off when she and her team won a college business competition and a cash prize of NRs. 3,00,000 for their research project on Black Soldier Fly Larvae. With this prize money, She kickstarted her dream project of enhancing farming through scientific measures.
It was through our Micro Enterprise Development (MED) program that we first connected with Sushma. We were thrilled by her innovative approach to farming and we knew we had to support her. With our seed fund of NRs. 50,000, Sushma was able to expand her business and started producing organic mushrooms. These days, Sushma’s family is also engaged in her farming business, producing organic vegetables, poultry products, and animal feeds. She now earns a profit of NRs. 50,000 per month and is optimistic about changing the traditional way of farming and drawing more youths into the business in the future.
